Sixes & Sevens are an Amsterdam-based band whose sound has evolved from raw urgency into something more deliberate, introspective, and emotionally charged. Initially defined by frantic rhythms, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and explosive bursts of adrenaline, the band’s early work blended desert rock grit with alternative and hard-hitting rock energy. Over time, however, that intensity began to turn inward.

Their recent output marks a clear shift. While their latest EP hinted at a transition, the new album they are currently working on represents a full commitment to a more experimental, alternative, and at times art-rock-leaning approach. Drawing on the lessons of their high-energy beginnings, Sixes & Sevens now focus on examining human connection through music — exploring alienation, intimacy, and emotional misalignment within relationships. The result is a sound that balances immediacy with restraint, allowing tension to linger rather than resolve too quickly.

The band was formed after guitarist Heymi Dannon and guitarist/singer Stefanos Lemesios moved from New York to Amsterdam, where they connected with drummer Alejandro Alonso and bassist Juan Cruz through a musicians’ networking app. With members from Cyprus, Turkey, Spain, and Argentina, Sixes & Sevens’ international makeup feeds naturally into their interest in distance, belonging, and communication.

Their debut album, released in May 2024, captured the band’s earlier identity as a no-holds-barred ode to rock ’n’ roll. Since then, their live reputation has continued to grow through performances across established venues and DIY stages in Amsterdam. A standout moment came with their performance at Fengaros Festival in August 2024, marking an important step onto an international stage. Most recently, the band has been selected to participate in the current edition of Zonneprijs, using the platform to debut their new artistic direction.
